Congratulations to our founder, Jeffrey Bass, on being named a Distinguished Leader by the Daily Business Review in its 2025 Legal Awards.
In his Q&A, Jeff reflects on the firm’s launch, his philosophy of building a team rooted in trust and shared purpose, and how a culture of continuous learning drives individual and collective success. When asked about the most important elements of leadership in the legal profession, he responded:
“Humility is the most important element of leadership in the legal profession. Humility coupled with empathy for how difficult it is to be a young lawyer. I sometimes tell my junior lawyers, ‘If you feel like throwing up a lot of the time, then you’re doing a great job—keep it up!’ To be an effective leader in this business, one must maintain a keen awareness that it is really hard to be a baby lawyer. I try to engage with my teammates as total equals—I just have the privilege of more experience. My goal is to get them to believe in themselves.”
